The Center for Civic Education is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Calabasas, California, focused on helping each generation understand and uphold democratic principles and practices. For more than six decades, it has delivered civic learning programs to educators and students designed to build knowledge, skills, and the dispositions essential for self-government, including flagship initiatives such as We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, Project Citizen, and Foundations of Democracy. Its network reaches every U.S. state and congressional district and more than eighty countries worldwide, supporting educators and learners to engage across differences, think critically, and take informed civic action. Its work has been documented in books, peer-reviewed research, and award-winning documentaries such as The World We Want and Citizen Nation, and it traces its origins to UCLA in 1964. In March 2026, it announced a Civic Education Research symposium at Georgetown University, signaling ongoing collaboration among national leaders to advance civic education research.
