Central Highlands Regional Council is a local government authority serving a large inland region of Queensland, with its main office in Emerald. The council covers about 60,000 square kilometres, stretching from Arcadia Valley in the south to the Peak Ranges in the north, and east from Boolburra to Bogantungan in the west. It maintains 4632 kilometres of roads and operates assets such as nine library branches, six aquatic centres and seven customer service centres, as well as parks and gardens. It administers assets exceeding $1.1 billion and relies on hundreds of staff to deliver a broad suite of municipal services. Its services include youth and indigenous programs, arts spaces, cultural development, animal management, public housing, and essential utilities such as water and sewerage, waste collection and recycling. In November 2021, the council launched the Vintage Sessions program for adults and seniors to promote relaxation, learning and social connection.
