Formed in 1962 through the merger of the Borough of Waynesburg and several townships, it operates an elementary, a middle, and a senior high school, supported by professional staff, teachers, and administrators focused on providing educational programs to students in the district. Located about 50 miles south of Pittsburgh and 20 miles north of Morgantown, WV, the district sits in a small-town community with access to regional higher education and cultural resources, and serves a student population supported by a local economy rooted in farming and mining. CGSD is part of the primary and secondary education sector and maintains a presence in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, under a regional education framework that emphasizes a cohesive K-12 experience.
