Champion Iron Limited, based in Toronto, Canada, operates the Bloom Lake Mining Complex on the south end of the Labrador Trough near Fermont, Québec. It is an open-pit operation equipped with two concentrators and powered largely by renewable hydroelectric energy, with a combined nameplate capacity of about 15 Mtpa. The facilities produce a high-grade iron ore concentrate around 66.2% Fe, and can also deliver a direct-reduction quality concentrate at approximately 67.5% Fe. Bloom Lake ore is shipped by rail to a loading port at Sept-Îles and sold to customers worldwide, including those in China, Japan, the Middle East, Europe, South Korea, India and Canada. In addition to Bloom Lake, Champion Iron holds exploration and development projects in the Labrador Trough, notably Kamistiatusset near Bloom Lake and Consolidated Fire Lake North. In March 2026, the company announced a plan to expand facilities toward Oregon and to upgrade about half of Bloom Lake's capacity to direct-reduction quality pellet feed iron ore with up to 69% Fe.
