The Charter for Compassion engages communities and individuals in compassionate action worldwide. Our work is grounded in reinvigorating the Golden Rule: “Treat others and the planet as you wish to be treated.” Our world is deeply troubled and polarized, so we work to establish and sustain cultures of compassion locally and globally through a network of Compassionate Cities and the Charter for Compassion Education Institute. We are a worldwide non-governmental organization founded in 2009, and inspired by the 2008 written declaration of four paragraphs. It was crafted by a multi-faith, multi-national group of religious thinkers and leaders, who reviewed and sorted through contributions from across the globe to finalize the final Charter.
