Located in Brookings, South Dakota, the Children's Museum of South Dakota focuses on early learning through play, creativity, and discovery. The facility spans more than 44,000 square feet of indoor space on four prairie acres and tells the Midwest's land-and-culture story through hands-on experiences. It houses the country’s largest animatronic dinosaur, Mama T. Rex, and supports exploration with more than 5,000 loose parts and props, supported by a small to mid-sized staff. Its audience comprises families with children seeking engaging, experiential learning that connects regional history and culture. In 2021 it launched Connectivities, a Museum in a Box program designed to foster connection during periods of distance, and the museum was recognized as a South Dakota Great Place in 2022.
