Chinese American International School, based in San Francisco, California, offers a preschool through eighth grade program that combines English and Chinese in a bilingual, multicultural curriculum. The school aims to prepare students for an increasingly interconnected world by fostering bicultural competencies and helping them develop academically and personally within a dual-language immersion setting. Established in 1981 by a coalition of local parents, educators, and civic leaders, CAIS presents itself as a long-standing independent school in the primary and secondary education sector. The campus occupies a 5.4-acre site on 19th Avenue, featuring facilities for athletics, arts, and teaching and learning, with recent developments including an outdoor playspace for lower elementary grades and the acquisition of property to support ongoing expansion.
