The City of Yellowknife is the municipal government for Yellowknife, the capital city of the Northwest Territories, Canada, established in 1953. It serves more than 19,000 residents and provides a broad range of municipal services, including roads, water and sewer, garbage and recycling, parks and recreation, fire and ambulance, and planning and development, in the sub-Arctic climate. City operations are organized to serve both residents and local businesses from City Hall in the downtown core along Frame Lake. The city has pursued public engagement and economic development initiatives, including a five-year Economic Development Plan informed by surveys and public forums, along with campaigns on tourism and active transportation and a Citizen Budget program. It has also undertaken efforts to reduce oil consumption, improve solid waste management, and support housing initiatives such as Betty House, a transitional home for women and children. In June 2026, Yellowknife launched a redesigned website to improve access to information and services for residents and visitors.
