ClearSpec Introduces: Multi-Planar Tissue Retraction. During the performance of a speculum examination, the physician often encounters patients who have excess vaginal tissue. This excessive tissue collapses toward the middle between the speculum blades, obstructing the physician’s view of the patient’s cervix and making a proper and complete examination more difficult. The excessive tissue prevents the physician’s performance of any necessary diagnostic procedures, such as pap smears, cervical cultures and biopsies. While some physicians will use a second instrument, a lateral retractor, a condom, or a glove in an effort to retract the excess tissue against the walls, most would prefer an effective all-in-one instrument. - The physician has an unobstructed view of the patient’s cervix, even when there is excessive vaginal tissue. - The sheath makes it possible for the physician to perform an examination or diagnostic procedures, such as pap smears, cervical cultures and biopsies. - A second instrument such as a lateral retractor or condom is not needed to perform an exam. - Opening the speculum wide is not necessary.
