The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) is the regulatory body for Registered Massage Therapists in Ontario, and it is a nonprofit organization based in Toronto. It is not a school or advocacy organization; its mandate is to protect the public interest by setting entry requirements for practice and maintaining the protected titles MT and RMT. It also administers a public register to help Ontarians verify whether a practitioner is registered and qualified to practise. It develops and enforces practice guidelines, including a Code of Ethics, runs a Quality Assurance Program, and handles public complaints with disciplinary action when needed. CMTO serves both the public seeking massage therapy and practitioners by providing oversight to ensure safe, qualified care; its work contributes to professional accountability within the Ontario massage therapy landscape. A recent development is the 2025 launch of a new Standard governing the collection of Personal Health Information, designed to be client-centered and respectful.
