COFI is a Chicago-based nonprofit in the civic and social sector that seeks to strengthen the influence of parents—particularly mothers and grandmothers—from Black and Brown communities over public decisions affecting their lives and their families. The organization centers organizing and advocacy to advance economic and racial justice for these communities. In 2020, COFI launched the Center for Action and Learning to catalyze a national parent-led movement and to provide capacity building for other organizations under The COFI Way. In 2021, it introduced the Closing the Women's Wealth Gap Community Leader Fellowship to support community leadership around wealth disparities affecting women. Through these initiatives, COFI engages in activities typical of civic and social organizations that aim to shape policy and social outcomes for families.
