The Consumer Federation of America (CFA) is a nonprofit federation of consumer organizations founded in 1968. It pursues its mission through research, advocacy, education, and services aimed at advancing consumer interests. Its research program analyzes consumer issues, behavior, and attitudes, and publishes findings in reports used by advocates, policymakers, and individuals; governance is provided by representatives of more than 250 member groups. CFA seeks to influence policy by promoting consumer-friendly approaches before Congress, the White House, federal and state regulators, state legislatures, and the courts, and by engaging with public officials to foster informed, balanced policy debates. Based in Washington, D.C., it operates as a national platform that channels research and analysis into policy positions and advocacy work. A notable recent development is the April 2026 class-action filing against Meta Platforms alleging profits from facilitating fraudulent advertising and misrepresenting efforts to address the issue.
