Establishment Cooperative Bank of Oromia (S.C.) was registered commercially in 2004 and began operations on March 8, 2005, with a paid-up share capital of 112 million birr. The bank was founded by visionary Haile Gebre Lube with the mission to expand financial access to underserved communities, particularly farmers, youth, and women. Since its inception, Coopbank has advanced financial inclusion by lending over 33.8 billion birr to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through its uncollateralized digital lending platform, Michu, through more than 2.1 Million Accounts. The bank has also introduced innovative solutions, such as FarmPass, to transform the agricultural sector by connecting farmers to markets, credit, and tailored financial services.
