The Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies is an independent, non-profit think tank founded in 1969 and based in Copenhagen, Denmark. It assists public, private, philanthropic, and academic organizations worldwide in imagining, working with, and shaping their futures through advisory services, publishing, events, and collaborative initiatives that advance futures research. Rather than predicting the future, CIFS seeks to generate well-qualified assumptions about potential futures by identifying signals and patterns and translating analysis into actionable insights. Profits from its activities are reinvested to further futures studies and the organization’s broader mission. In 2024, CIFS launched Futures Philanthropy: Anticipation for the Common Good, a collaborative effort to apply foresight to European philanthropy.
