Photographer/Director/Visual Artist Craig Cameron Olsen has been capturing subjects both intense and sublime for over twenty years. He has a knack for wrangling natural light and highlighting people. Accomplished outdoorsmen. Olsen’s distinctive style has won IPA, APA, and Clio awards, featured twice on the cover of Communications Arts and included in several books most recently in MEME WARS by Kalle Lasn, AP27, One Eyeland, Exposure 20 Years of Photography by Outside magazine and Ray Gun out of control. Olsen’s commercial and editorial work includes major campaigns and assignments for Toyota, American Express, GQ ,Kodak, ESPN, Esquire, Nissan, Vanity Fair, Embassy Suites, Nike, VW, Nikon, Mercedes Benz , IBM, Harley Davidson, and many others. He’s a people person, a real renaissance man, an adventurer, and above all else—an exquisite storyteller. Whether he’s using his lens to document the rugged versatility of the toughest vehicles on the planet, or man’s never-ending drive to push the extreme sporting envelope, or eclectic spirits like musicians Devendra Banhart and Slumdog Millionaire composer A.R. Rahman, to Alanis Morissette ~ Olsen is a master of drawing out the details and humanity that make any shot transform into a visual narrative. Famous for his exuberant personality, it might surprise a few that Olsen’s passion for photography was sparked by something that bordered on bone-chilling solitude. He explains, “I spent two seasons at McMurdo Station as a member of the ANS Team in the US Antarctic Program, the solitude and isolation I felt was like a chrysalis.” I knew then I wanted to take my passion for photography forward. Since that life-changing Polar experience, Olsen has traveled to far-flung reaches of the world, documenting its people, their habitats, and their stories with a colorful, artistic flair that often pays tribute to one of his admitted influences, Elliot Erwitt.
