Crandell Theatre is a historic nonprofit cinema located in Chatham, in Columbia County, New York. Founded in 1926 by Walter S. Crandell as a vaudeville house, it is the oldest and largest movie theatre in the county. The venue seats 534 and showcases a Spanish-inspired brick-and-stucco exterior, a substantial stage measuring 26 feet wide by 13 feet deep, dressing rooms, an orchestra pit, a 112-seat balcony, and organ lofts on either side of the stage. In addition to film screenings, Crandell hosts community programming such as the Chatham Film Club's monthly independent or foreign-film presentations on the last Sunday of each month. The venue also hosts FilmColumbia, a five-day international film festival held each October. It operates a sizable concession stand with about 50 different selections, and popcorn is prepared on site daily.
