Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an education administration organization based in Hartford, in the Capitol Region of Connecticut. It partners with local boards of education to improve the quality of public education and operates a broad mix of programs and services designed to meet learners’ needs. These include ongoing professional development for educators, PreK-12 programs delivered through eighteen interdistrict magnet schools, and services spanning school facilities, transportation, and cooperative purchasing. CREC serves public school districts and learners across the Capitol Region, offering specialized programs for students with hearing impairments and other challenges, as well as preschool and family care, and workforce development initiatives that prepare adults with job-ready skills. It also provides on-site technology services for schools and towns and seeks to foster collaboration with districts and partner organizations to improve educational outcomes. A recent development is the appointment of Desi Nesmith as Executive Director in February 2026 to succeed the retiring leader.
