Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative that serves about 5,800 customers on roughly 4,700 miles of distribution lines in southeastern North Dakota. Its service area runs from the Minnesota border to near Ashley, and from the South Dakota border to Jamestown. Formed in 2000 from the consolidation of James Valley Electric Cooperative and RSR Electric Cooperative, it is one of North Dakota's 16 distribution cooperatives and participates in the Touchstone Energy Cooperative network. The cooperative distributes electricity generated by Basin Electric Power Cooperative and the Western Area Power Administration and is governed by a nine-member board elected by its members. It is affiliated with the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, and is based in Edgeley, North Dakota. In February 2026 it received the Cooperative Community Development Award for leadership in community and economic development and partnerships.
