Darfur Women Action Group is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit focused on advancing the rights of women and other historically excluded, conflict-affected Sudanese communities. As a women-led, rights-based, anti-atrocities organization with 501(c)(3) status, DWAG seeks to empower and amplify these voices so they can participate effectively in decision making in both Sudan and the diaspora. The group provides the tools, skills, and knowledge needed to pursue sustainable social change, address large-scale human rights abuses, and help prevent future atrocities while promoting global peace. Founded in 2009 by Darfuri genocide survivor Niemat Ahmadi, DWAG prioritizes advancing human rights and the rule of law to support crisis-affected communities in Sudan amid 21st-century challenges. Its work centers on strengthening Sudanese civil society, with a particular focus on women-led NGOs in Darfur and the diaspora, and creating platforms for international audiences to hear from those most affected while informing policy decisions. In November 2023 the organization announced a partnership with Saleh, illustrating its ongoing collaboration with partners to extend its impact.
