Recent initiatives include launching DeKalbAlert, an emergency notification system that delivers real-time alerts to enrolled residents' mobile devices, and plans to expand public safety infrastructure with new fire stations in Tucker, Decatur, and Lithonia. The county also redesigned its website to improve access for residents, businesses, and county employees. Additionally, DeKalb County is developing its first Comprehensive Housing Plan to address housing issues in the area. It was recognized as a Tree City USA in 2025, reflecting its emphasis on urban forestry.
