Denver Young Artists Orchestra Association coordinates five youth ensembles in the Denver area, including the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, two Conservatory Orchestras, and two String Ensembles. Together, these ensembles involve about 250 musicians representing roughly 90 schools from across the Front Range region, with some participants traveling from Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, and other mountain communities. Auditions are competitive and held each spring, and musicians are eligible between the ages of 8 and 23. The repertoire spans full orchestral and symphonic works performed in their original form. Based in Denver, Colorado, the organization operates with a small staff and serves the youth music community by providing orchestral performance opportunities and training across its five ensembles. In 2017, DYAO launched its Composition Competition, a recent development that broadens its engagement with young composers.
