Diaspora* is an open-source and distributed community of social networks (or pods) that enable users to own their own data and control their privacy. Users can download the Diaspora* software and install it on their own machines, so they may run a personal pod. Or they can use one of more than 20 open community pods listed at podupti.me. Diaspora* is a 100% volunteer-run, open, non-profit organization based in San Francisco, CA.
