The Diocese of Metuchen is a Roman Catholic ecclesiastical jurisdiction established in 1981 that serves a Catholic population across Middlesex, Hunterdon, Somerset, and Warren counties in New Jersey. Its operations center on supporting regional parishes and Catholic institutions, with the Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi in Metuchen serving as the bishop’s seat. As a religious organization, it seeks to evangelize, teach the teachings of Jesus, and extend pastoral care to people of all ages, operating within the broader structure of the Catholic Church. The diocese coordinates programs and services aimed at spiritual formation, charitable outreach, and community engagement across its territory, aligning with its mission to reach people “at all times, and in all places.” A notable recent development is the launch of a Planned Giving Program, announced in 2023, which provides supporters with a formal avenue to contribute to the diocese’s mission and long-term initiatives. The organization is based in Metuchen, New Jersey, and serves a regional Catholic community through its offices and affiliated ministries. While it has faced publicized concerns related to financial accountability and past legal matters, the diocese remains a structured local church authority overseeing religious life and charitable activities within its geographic area.
