The Diocese of Monterey is a Catholic ecclesiastical jurisdiction based in Monterey, California, operating within the religious institutions sector. It coordinates a network of parishes and schools across four counties—Monterey County, San Benito County, San Luis Obispo County, and Santa Cruz County—serving the local Catholic community with 46 parishes and 18 Catholic schools. The organization is mid-sized, supported by a regional staff and clergy who oversee its ministries. It functions as a governing body for its parishes and schools, providing oversight and coordination within its territory. In 2019, the diocese published findings from a Report on Credible Allegations that examined clergy files to determine whether any credible claims of child sexual misconduct exist within the current ministry. In 2020 it partnered with Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School, and around that time announced the suspension of campus-based learning effective March 16, 2020.
