DMTF is a nonprofit standards organization that develops open manageability specifications for a broad range of IT infrastructures, including cloud, virtualization, networks, servers, and storage. Its work is carried out by member companies and alliance partners worldwide who collaborate to improve interoperability in IT management. Recognized by ANSI and ISO, these standards support a more integrated and cost-efficient approach to managing information technologies.

The organization is based in Portland, Oregon, and its leadership includes a diverse board drawn from major technology providers such as Broadcom, Cisco, Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Intel, Lenovo, Positivo Tecnologia, and Verizon. As a 501(c)(6) nonprofit standards body, it supports the development of interoperable solutions through a balance of open standards and open-source collaboration. In April 2025, DMTF publicly released the MCTP Host Interface Specification version 2.0.0, reflecting continued updates to its management specifications.
