The Diversity & Innovation Institute was a non-profit (2011-2025) organization dedicated to the development of human talent that leads to innovation, discovery, and the advancement technology. It served as a STEM education asset and resource for the Central Indiana community. HISTORY: It was initially established in 2011, by Dr. Alfredo Lopez (under the name of Health & Science Innovations) to inspire high school students to become innovators and meet the challenges that affect humanity. Under the leadership of Dr. Luis A. Palacio, the organization's name was changed to Diversity & Innovation Institute and it expanded from serving 20 individuals per year to serving an average of 1,500 individuals per year. The organization offered educational programs, research opportunities, internships, and resources to K-12 and college students interested in areas of science, engineering, technology, and medicine. It also became a top quality STEM education service brand within the state of Indiana with deep understanding of the STEM education pipeline and how to address existing gaps. The organization always operated under the philosophy of ALL ARE WELCOME to participate in discovery, creativity, innovation and technological advancement for the continuous development and enhancement of humankind. In 2025 the Board of Directors decided to dissolve the organization. During its nearly 15 years of operation the organization served over 17,000 individuals; primarily children and youth. This page is now privately held, being maintained by volunteers who continue to care for the core mission of unlocking innovative potential through STEM education; for historical purposes; and to allow alumni to remain connected with each other.
