DONA International is a professional organization in the wellness and fitness services sector that certifies doulas. It is based in Chicago, Illinois, and was founded in 1992 to professionalize the doula role. The organization describes itself as the world’s first, largest, and leading doula certifying entity, and it has certified more than 12,000 doulas across more than 50 countries.

Its credentialing programs have evolved to include the Advanced Certified Doula credential, launched January 1, 2015. In 2017, DONA International appointed Michael Chan as Executive Director, marking a leadership transition. Through its global reach, the organization serves birth professionals around the world by providing standardized credentials in the doula field.
