New York City-based DOUGHNUT PLANT is the pioneer of the artisanal doughnut. Created in 1994 by Mark Isreal, inspired by his grandfather’s recipe, Doughnut Plant handcrafts original and innovative doughnuts from the finest ingredients. We pride ourselves on originality, using the highest quality all natural ingredients and making everything in-house from scratch — glazes, fillings, jams and toppings — even our sourdough starter. We make our own 100% natural wild yeast starter to create our first doughnuts made with no commercial yeast. The method is popularly known as sourdough, but this implies a process, not taste. When the process is followed properly, the taste does not have to be sour. At Doughnut Plant, natural simply means food made using authentic ingredients and methods. Real ingredients. No preservatives, no artificial flavorings and no eggs -- ever! (Not even in our cake doughnuts or cream fillings). Same passion for our coffee, too!
