Downey Law Group LLC is a law firm devoted to legal ethics and the law of lawyering. The firm focuses on legal issues relating to lawyers, law firms, and their clients, including:

The founding member, Michael Downey, has defended lawyers on dozens of ethics charges brought by the Missouri Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel and the Illinois Attorney Registration & Discipline Commission. Michael has defended lawyers at hearing and argued their cases before the Illinois ARDC Review Board and the Missouri Supreme Court. 

Michael also serves as outside legal ethics and law firm risk management counsel to dozens of law firms. He assists with matters such as navigating conflicts of interest, terminating client relationships, obtaining payment of legal fees, and dealing with lawyer terminations, partnership disputes, and firm departures.

Former chair of the ABA Law Practice Division, Michael has advised on judicial ethics and discipline matters, and obtained dismissal of formal charges brought against a Missouri trial court judge by the Missouri Commission on the Retirement, Removal, and Discipline of Judges. Michael has also served as an expert witness on legal ethics, law firm practice, attorney fees and billing, and legal negligence issues, including in proceedings in Missouri, Kansas, and the District of Columbia.
