Dubai South is a government administration entity created by the Government of Dubai, transforming the former Dubai World Central into an expanding 145 square kilometer urban area within the Dubai emirate that is planned to house up to one million residents. Launched in 2006, the project seeks to realize Dubai Plan 2021 by building a smart, sustainable city that supports living, work, and investment, and positions itself as a central hub in the global economy. A defining feature is the Al Maktoum International Airport, conceived as the world’s largest airport when completed, with the development also linked to the World Expo 2020.
