The East Bay Regional Park District is a regional government agency that oversees a system of parklands, open space, and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties east of San Francisco. Based in Oakland, it manages more than 121,000 acres across 73 parks and over 1,200 miles of trails, with a mandate to acquire, manage, and preserve natural and cultural resources for present and future visitors. The parks emphasize healthful recreation and environmental education, offering opportunities for hiking, biking, picnicking, horseback riding, camping, fishing, boating, and nature study. In June 2026, the district completed the acquisition of 4.5 acres of land from the City of Livermore to expand Doolan Canyon Regional Preserve in Livermore. In 2024, as part of its 90th anniversary, East Bay Regional Park District launched Explore Your Parks, an educational program designed to deepen visitors’ understanding of local history, wildlife, and environmental stewardship.
