East Devon District Council is the local government authority for the East Devon area in England, serving roughly 132,900 residents across 314 square miles. The district lies between the River Exe and the outskirts of Exeter to the west, with inland borders touching Somerset and Dorset, spanning about 30 miles east–west and 15 miles north–south. Its coastline forms part of England’s World Heritage site designated for its natural environment, and the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty lies wholly within the district, alongside much of the Blackdown Hills AONB. The main towns are Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Cranbrook, Sidmouth and Seaton, with inland settlements such as Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Axminster and Broadclyst. The council aims to keep East Devon a high-quality place, with priorities to strengthen communities, develop the local economy, protect and promote the environment, and continuously improve council performance. It has been recognised with Investors in People Platinum for staff development.
