Our coastline forms part of England’s first and only World Heritage site designated for its natural environment. The East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty lies wholly within the District, together with the greater part of the Blackdown Hills AONB.

Our main towns are the coastal resorts of Exmouth (Devon’s largest town – pop. 34,000); Budleigh Salterton, Cranbrook Sidmouth and Seaton. In the mainly rural inland area the settlements are Honiton, Ottery St Mary, Axminster and Broadclyst.

Our ambition is to keep East Devon an outstanding place. Our priorities that will help us do this are:
•	encouraging communities to be outstanding
•	developing an outstanding local economy
•	delivering and promoting our outstanding environment
•	continuously improving to be an outstanding council

We have also been awarded Investors in People Platinum for our commitment to developing our staff.
