Based in Giffnock, it serves the towns of Barrhead, Clarkston, Giffnock and Newton Mearns, along with numerous neighbourhood centres across the area. Its long-term plan, A Place to Grow, outlines a 2040 vision in which children and young people flourish, communities thrive, and people live well. In 2020 the council established the Healthier Minds Service to support children's mental wellbeing. In 2026 it signaled expansion of rail-related infrastructure, including plans to acquire land near Balgray reservoir to support a new rail station and other asset initiatives. The council was recognized with a Climate Impact Award in 2026.
