Education First is a nonprofit organization that provides need-based college scholarships to high school seniors who wish to earn a degree. The program operates in communities across the United States, with local volunteers interviewing and selecting scholars. In each community, three partner high schools are identified, and students compete locally for scholarships that can be applied toward tuition or books. The organization prioritizes students who have overcome significant life challenges and who demonstrate strength of character and a clear vision for higher education, often as first in their families to earn a degree. Founded in 1995 and based in Seattle, Washington, Education First relies on volunteers and seeks funders to sustain its work. In 2019, MassRobotics partnered with Education First to provide a workshop and robotics lab tour for eighth-grade students.
