EF High School Exchange Year brings together curious high school students from across the globe with welcoming host families throughout the USA. As a U.S. Department of State-designated cultural exchange organization and CSIET-certified J-1 Inbound program, we create meaningful connections that foster global understanding and build international families.

Our Mission
We believe that cultural exchange makes the world a better place. Through cross-cultural understanding, tolerance, and open-mindedness, we foster global citizenship and create bonds that transcend borders—a mission more vital than ever in today's interconnected world.

Our Legacy
Cultural exchange became a U.S. priority after World War II, thanks to Senator J. William Fulbright, considered the father of exchange programs. Since launching our non-profit high school exchange program in 1979, we've guided more than 90,000 students from nearly 40 countries through life-changing experiences. Over four decades of continuous operation have established us as one of the world's largest and most trusted cultural exchange organizations.

Our Approach
Students, host families, and schools are equally essential to successful exchange—our program wouldn't exist without them. Many of our team members have walked this path themselves as exchange students or host families, giving us unique insight and empathy. We listen, advocate for all participants equally, and work as one global team to bring dreams to life while applying our program standards fairly.

Our Commitment to Safety
Every student deserves a safe and meaningful exchange. We've established our comprehensive Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct in partnership with Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children program, ensuring the highest standards of care and protection.

Join the Movement
Be part of a growing community promoting positive cross-cultural communication and contributing to a more peaceful world through the creation of global families.
