EGAS was established in August 2001 by Prime Ministerial Decree to organize and manage activities related to Egypt's natural gas resources. It conducts upstream, midstream, and downstream activities, either directly or through its 38 subsidiaries and affiliated companies, to develop the natural gas sector in Egypt. The company pursues a vision of making Egypt a leading natural gas hub in the Mediterranean region and worldwide. EGAS is headquartered in Cairo, at 85 Alameda Nasr Road, Madīnat an Naşr, Cairo 11371, and has a workforce of about 501-1000 employees. In recent years, EGAS has engaged in partnerships and asset development with international firms, including Cairn Energy PLC, Zarubezhneft, NewMed Energy, and Cheiron Energy, and holds petroleum rights in 19 concessions operated by Cheiron’s JV companies in partnership with EGPC and Ganope; it has pursued developments in onshore Nile Delta blocks and new investment blocks in the Mediterranean.
