Election BC is an independent, non-partisan office of the British Columbia legislature tasked with safeguarding the right to vote for provincial residents. It operates separately from federal Elections Canada and from local election authorities, administering provincial general elections and by-elections, recall petitions, initiative petitions and initiative votes, referenda and plebiscites, and local elections along with campaign financing and advertising rules. British Columbia follows fixed election dates, with provincial general elections held on the third Saturday in October every four years. Based in Victoria, Elections BC is a mid-sized government agency employing a workforce in the low to mid hundreds. In February 2024, the organization launched an online portal that allows residents to enter their address to identify their riding name and boundaries.
