Engineers In Action is a mid-sized nonprofit based in the United States that concentrates on water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in underserved communities. The organization collaborates with governments and international partners to design and implement WASH infrastructure and related bridges, aiming to expand access to essential resources and build local capacity for ongoing maintenance. Founded in 2008, it mobilizes volunteers from universities and companies to work alongside communities on rural infrastructure projects. Across 13 countries, it has completed more than 250 projects, providing improved access to clean water and essential resources for over 250,000 people. Beyond concrete infrastructure, participants gain experience in design, project management, teamwork, and cross-cultural communication, developing leadership and problem-solving skills. In 2023, a partnership with McElhanney enabled the construction of an 81-meter pedestrian footbridge in Bolivia's Rio Churicala community.
