Equitable Origin operates a voluntary, independent standards system designed to improve social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability in energy development. The framework is stakeholder-based and works with communities, companies, and governments to provide practical tools, guidelines, and independent recognition of performance across energy projects. It addresses both renewable and non-renewable energy developments to ensure projects are carried out responsibly with respect for local communities and ecosystems. Originating in Ecuador in 2009, EO now operates from New York City and serves communities, companies, and governments seeking credible, independent assessments of social and environmental performance in energy projects. In February 2025, the organization announced partnerships with the Internet Society Foundation and TechSoup to expand connectivity in the Amazon.
