The founder of Eurocentres, Dr. Erhard Wespi, a Swiss teacher, opened the first language school in Bournemouth in 1946. Ten years later, he met Gottlieb Duttweiler, the founder of Migros, the largest retail group in Switzerland and one of the most influential Swiss entrepreneurs. Today, the Eurocentres Foundation forms part of the Migros Cultural Percentage, a non-profit activity institution, dedicated to supporting cultural and educational activities. 

With key contributions in the development of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language (CEFR) for the Council of Europe, Eurocentres has defined today’s quality standards for foreign language teaching.
