The Expedition Education Institute offered traveling semesters for gap year and college students where they had the opportunity to come into profound connection with the natural world, with their peers and teachers who comprise their learning community, and with themselves. The program supported and challenged students to become leaders, educators, and change agents who would "be the change they want to see in the world." In partnership with Marlboro College, EEI offered a full semester of 15 college credits. College students visiting from another institution could transfer their federal financial aid to Marlboro College and bring their credits back to their college. Gap year students could enroll without the extra cost of the credits or they could choose to opt for the credit. Notes on what is a gap year: a "gap" can be the traditional one between high school and college or can be any other gap in an education path--a common one being students taking a gap after a first or second year of college to re-evaluate or change direction. An EEI semester is excellent for supporting exploration of one's passions and gifts, development of 21st century skills, and engagement with deep learning and reflection. The Expedition Education Institute was a rebirth of the Audubon Expedition Institute and extended a 40 year history to 50 years. Sadly, the program came to an end with the combination of Marlboro College closing and Covid19 starting in 2020.
