Fayoum University is a public higher education institution located in Al Fayyum, in northern Egypt. Its origins trace back to Cairo University's faculties established in the mid-1970s—Education in 1975, Agriculture in 1976, and Engineering in 1981—before a 1983 presidential decree affirmed Fayoum as an independent branch of Cairo University. Today the university comprises 13 faculties offering programs across disciplines such as Education, Agriculture, Engineering, Social Work, Arabic and Islamic Studies, Sciences, Tourism and Hotels, Specific Education, Archaeology, Medicine, Arts, Computer and Information Sciences, and Kindergarten, along with a Technical Institute for Nursing. It serves a large student body, with about 25,000 students taught by approximately 1,800 faculty members and teaching assistants. It functions as a mid-sized public higher education provider within Egypt, contributing to regional education and research through its broad program mix.
