Feeding San Diego is a non-profit organization focused on reducing hunger by rescuing surplus food and turning it into nutritious meals for people in need. Founded in 2007 and based in San Diego, California, it sources excess food from local and national donors before it would go to waste and distributes it across San Diego County. The organization works through a network of more than 350 local charities, schools, colleges, faith communities, healthcare providers, and meal sites to reach its community. Last year it provided more than 31 million meals to a broad range of recipients, including children, families, seniors, college students, military families, and veterans, with 90% of that food rescued. By diverting more than 32.6 million pounds of food from landfills each year, Feeding San Diego helps avert 28,986 metric tons of CO2 emissions.
