FinTech Scotland is an independent not-for-profit cluster body in the financial services sector, based at 1 Lauriston Place in Edinburgh, with a team of 11-50 employees. It was established in January 2018 as a joint initiative by the University of Edinburgh, Lloyds Banking Group, HSBC and Scottish Enterprise, with the aim of seizing fintech opportunities in Scotland by promoting financial innovation, collaboration and inclusion as part of broader digital economy objectives. The organisation functions as a strategic enabler and cluster management body that seeks to maximize economic benefits such as productivity, innovation and employment, as well as social benefits like financial inclusion and well-being through fintech innovation. FinTech Scotland is supported by a wide network of global financial services, technology and professional services firms, major universities, the Financial Conduct Authority and Scottish Enterprise, and in 2019 it was among the founding bodies of the UK FinTech National Network alongside FinTech North and Innovate Finance. In August 2022 it was formally recognised with the silver label for Cluster Management Excellence by the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis. In 2026 the organization expanded its activity with new partnerships and initiatives, including a strategic partnership with Atos UK&I to accelerate AI-led fintech innovation and growth, and the launch of an academy delivered in partnership with the University of Strathclyde and the University of Glasgow.
