The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is a state executive agency in the civil engineering domain that reports directly to the Governor of Florida. Its primary statutory duty is to coordinate planning and development of a safe, viable, and balanced transportation system for all regions, while ensuring compatibility among its components, including multimodal facilities. A multimodal transportation system combines two or more movement modes to support the movement of people or goods. Florida’s transportation network encompasses roadways, air, rail, sea access, spaceports, bus transit, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities. FDOT is based in Tallahassee and maintains a workforce of several thousand. In 2026, FDOT, in partnership with Embry-Riddle, hosted the inaugural Advanced Air Mobility summit.
