Florida Keys Electric Cooperative (FKEC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility serving the Upper and Middle Keys. As a distribution cooperative, it operates a 138,000-volt transmission line that brings power from the mainland to the Florida Keys. The utility serves approximately 33,000 accounts across the area from the Monroe-Dade County line to the Seven Mile Bridge. FKEC purchases nearly all of its energy from Florida Power & Light, with additional supply contributed by Marathon-based generators and two solar arrays, and it describes itself as a progressive employer and influential community partner.
