The Fort Monroe Authority is a small government agency based in Hampton, Virginia, tasked with preserving the Fort Monroe site and its historical legacies. In partnership with the National Park Service and the City of Hampton, it provides access to waterfront views, nature trails, historic homes and buildings, beaches, and a range of event venues for visitors and event organizers, including Continental Park and The Commanding General's Residence and Garden. It also supports educational experiences by coordinating tours of the Casemate Museum through its Visitor & Education Center. Fort Monroe is a site of long-standing historical significance at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1960, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966, and named Fort Monroe National Monument in 2011. Recent leadership developments include the appointment of Scott Martin as chief executive officer in 2024, following the retirement of the prior executive director.
