Free Arts is a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, California, serving children aged 4 to 18 who have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty, or homelessness. The organization provides free art-based programs aimed at restoring hope, resiliency, and self-esteem. It emphasizes creating a safe environment where children can feel, understand, and express their emotions while beginning to recover and gain a sense of empowerment. Its broader goal is to bring together people from diverse backgrounds through art as a therapeutic medium to disrupt cycles of violence and promote healthier life outcomes. Each year, Free Arts reaches more than 22,000 children in the Los Angeles area through its creative arts programs. Programs are delivered with the help of almost 200 adult volunteer mentors who donate more than 14,000 hours annually, alongside trained facilitators. Core offerings include Free Arts Mentorship, a program delivering weekly 90-minute art-therapy sessions over eight to twelve weeks to foster self-esteem and healthy relationships. Free Arts for Families engages parents and children in eight to twelve weeks of family-centered projects designed to strengthen bonds and communication in a constructive setting. In courthouse settings, it provides weekday activities to ease anxiety for children and families awaiting testimony, and also runs Free Arts Day as a one-day workshop sponsored by partners for mentorship and community involvement.
