Friends of Casco Bay is a nonprofit organization focused on protecting and improving the health of Casco Bay, an estuary of national significance in the Gulf of Maine. It gathers scientific data on water quality and uses that information to advocate for policy actions that reduce pollution and bolster resilience to climate change. The group's lead advocate, Casco BAYKEEPER, acts as the eyes, ears, and voice for Casco Bay, coordinating efforts to monitor and protect the watershed. Based in Portland, Maine, the organization is a founding member of WATERKEEPER Alliance, a global network of more than 300 independent groups safeguarding waters around the world. It relies on a small, staff-led team complemented by volunteers to carry out its programs and collaborations with other groups. In 2025, the organization expanded its data-collection capabilities by installing telemetry equipment and a rooftop weather station at its data site in Cundy's Harbor, with plans to provide the public online access to real-time ocean and weather data.
