Gemini Observatory operates two 8-meter optical/infrared telescopes, located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii and Cerro Pachon in Chile. It is an international partnership of seven countries, with its international headquarters in Hilo, Hawaii, and remote operations managed from Hilo and La Serena. The facility maintains an active program of instruments and observing capabilities, supported by a queue scheduling system that matches science goals with observing conditions. The observatory serves astronomers and research institutions within the partner countries, providing access to substantial observational resources for exploring the universe. By combining sites at high altitude with remote operations and collaborative governance, Gemini situates itself as a major infrastructure provider for astronomical research.
